The post John Boyega Lands Lead Role in “The Book of Eli” Prequel Series appeared first on EverydayKoala.
]]>The original 2010 film was directed by the Hughes Brothers, and it revolved around a resilient drifter Eli, fighting his way across a ravaged, post-apocalyptic America while trying to deliver a sacred book that holds the secrets to humanity’s salvation to a safe location.
The film’s writer Gary Whitta would serve as creator, writer, and executive producer of the potential series, while its directors the Hughes Brothers would come on board as executive producers. They’d be joined by John Boyega, who’d also replace Washington in the lead role.
Plot details are being kept under wraps, but Deadline reports that the prequel series would most likely take place 30 years prior to the events depicted in the film, and it would most likely explore the nuclear catastrophe that led to the collapse of Eli’s world.
Alcon Entertainment will be taking this hot package to select premium buyers, and they’ll most likely sell it pretty soon given its star-driven nature.

]]>The Freshening is based on Rachel Khong’s short story, originally published in the Paris Review, taking place in the near future where tensions over race and gender have reached a violet extreme.
To put a stop to it, the U.S. government creates an initiative called “the freshening”, forcing everyone to see others as the same race and gender as themselves. It all goes upside down when a new street drug emerges, allowing people to see the world for what it truly is.
Yan is producing the film alongside FilmNation Entertainment, Ali Wong, Ash Sarohia, Hyperobject Industries’ Adam McKay, and Betsy Koch and she’s thrilled to see Boyega joining them for this wild ride.
“It’s a dream to work with John Boyega, a singular talent whose commitment to his craft and willingness to take risks have delivered such memorable, wide-ranging performances. I know he’ll bring incredible depth and nuance to Reese,” said Yan in a statement.
Boyega is fresh from the success of The Woman King, and we’ll soon get to see him in the sci-fi comedy They Cloned Tyrone, also starring Teyonah Parris, Kiefer Sutherland, and Jamie Foxx.
