The show shared behind-the-scenes clips announcing that filming was underway. They featured Jodie Comer in one of Villanelle’s elaborate wigs.

Killing Eve has been nominated for numerous awards, with Comer and Sandra Oh picking up an Emmy and Golden Globe, respectively.

“’Killing Eve’ has been the most extraordinary journey and one that I will be forever grateful for,” said Comer. “Thank you to all the fans who’ve supported us throughout and come along for the ride. Although all good things come to an end, it’s not over yet. We aim to make this one to remember!”

Season three of the acclaimed thriller is finally here, which is the perfect time for a little more insight thanks to Killing Eve head writer Suzanne Heathcote.

And just as expected, the series about assassin Villanelle (Jodie Comer) and MI6 operative Eve Sandra Oh is about to get a lot darker.

“The temptation can be just to put a fun moment in just for the sake of it being a fun moment, as opposed to it being about the character’s journey,” Heathcote said of the show. “Often the actors will have suggestions as well, and they know the characters so well that they’ll come up with stuff that can be funny or interesting in that moment. It’s about finding the dark humor of it.”

In case you don’t follow — season two ended with Villanelle presumingly killing Eve. But we already know that Eve is still alive, but has isolated herself from everyone and is working as a prep cook.

“I wanted to know what happened to her emotionally in the time between her being shot and us seeing her,” Heathcote said. “I felt strongly that we really needed to see consequences. Not just for Eve, but for all the characters, including Carolyn. A huge amount has happened in the past two seasons, and those two seasons happen over a relatively short period of time. So I felt we needed to take a moment and take stock and see some of the effects of what happened, before we could launch into the new area that we were going to delve into for this season.”

Killing Eve returns tonight.

Killing Eve receives a Season 3 order straight off the heels of its Season 2 premiere.

Just one day after its Season 2  premiere, BBC America on Monday announced Killing Eve has been renewed for a third season.

The series about feminine duo — an MI6 operative (Sandra Oh) and psychopath assassin Villanelle (Jodie Comer) bound by mutual obsession – is based on the Codename Villanelle novellas by Luke Jennings

In the forthcoming season, Suzanne Heathcote will be taking over for Emerald Fennell as lead writer and executive producer. Fennell is set to take over as creator for Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

“I’m very excited that the Killing Eve baton is being passed onto another incredible writer for season three. We can sleep soundly knowing these characters are safe in Suzanne Heathcote’s hilariously murderous hands,” said Waller-Bridge.

“It’s been such an exciting year for me on Killing Eve. I think it’s cool that this tradition has been built into this untraditional show. Inheriting some of Phoebe’s characters was a treat — I can’t wait to see what Suzanne does next,” Fennell said.

“I think the key thing is maintaining a through-line with the incredible understanding our actors have of their characters,” Barnett said. “So much of the show has been established, I think, in terms of these characters and in terms of this amazing casting… I think that there’s a lot that will keep this show going…if the writers change season to season, it’s about picking great people.”

The series earned two Emmy award nominations and 14 BAFTA TV Award nominations, with Oh taking home a Screen Actors Guild award in the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series category.
