]]>Lorde recently did an in-depth interview with Ensemble, and one of the things she discussed was her plans for the future. Since she took four-year-long breaks between her previous albums, many have wondered if we’ll wait just as long for her next LP.
“It’s always my intention, to move as quickly as I f…ing can and then that ends up taking different forms… It has taken me quite a while [to start working on it]. I mean, I do just take a long time. I do a lot of research, I write a lot down,” the singer explained.
Even though her creative process can take quite a while, Lorde also told Ensemble her next album is in the works, adding “it’s been super exciting and I feel excited about what’s coming.”
Lorde’s third studio album Solar Power hit the shelves in 2021 and debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 chart. The record proved to be pretty polarizing, and the young singer said she experienced “the highest highs and the lowest lows” following its release.

]]>Lorde describes “The Path” as the first chapter in the mystical Solar Power story and a prequel to the title video. The dreamy visual shows her arriving on the island featured in all the other music videos from this album, discovering what it has in store, and joining the locals for a carefree group dance.
The release of “The Path” marks the one-year anniversary of Solar Power being announced. She reflected on the reaction from fans and critics in her latest email newsletter and said she experienced the highest highs and the lowest lows after sharing this album with the world.
“I learnt a ton about myself and how I’m perceived by making and releasing this album, and I feel significantly more connected and alive in my art practice and life than pretty much ever before. Sounds dry but true!!!” wrote Lorde.
Solar Power was released on August 20, 2021, and the 25-year-old singer embarked on a world tour across Australia, Europe, South America, and North America to promote it.

]]>Lorde is no stranger to topping this chart. She climbed to the top with her previous albums Pure Heroine and Melodrama.
She also hit no. 1 in her home country New Zealand but wasn’t as successful overseas. Solar Power is currently Lorde’s lowest-ranking album in the U.S. since it entered the Billboard 200 chart at no. 5. Her previous LP Melodrama topped the chart, while her debut album Pure Heroine reached no. 3. Solar Power was a bigger chart success in the UK, where it became Lorde’s highest-ranking album after it debuted at the no. 2 spot.
Solar Power was released on August 20th, and it was preceded by the singles “Solar Power”, “Stoned at the Nail Salon”, and “Mood Ring”. Lorde opted against making it available in the CD format for environmental reasons and released it to digital music platforms, streaming services, and vinyl LPs instead.

]]>In a pre-premiere live stream, Lorde said she did a deep-dive into ‘60s flower child culture on Solar Power, and “Moon Ring” allowed her to offer a satirical look at wellness culture, and our obsession with vegan diets, burning sage, keeping crystals, reading tarot cards or horoscope.
“One thing that occurred to me as a major parallel between that time and our time is our wellness culture and our culture of spirituality, pseudo-spirituality, wellness, pseudo-wellness … So this is kind of my extremely satirical look at all of those vibes,” explained Lorde.
Solar Power hit the shelves on August 20th, and it serves as the follow-up to her 2017 album Melodrama. She produced most of the songs alongside Jack Antonoff, who also produced her previous LP. Before sharing “Moon Ring” with her fans, Lorde surprised them with two more singles—”Solar Power” and “Stoned at the Nail Salon”.
