Every actor has that one role that got away and Nicholas Hoult admitted he lost quite a few major parts just last year. The British actor revealed he almost starred in The Batman and Top Gun: Maverick, but ended up losing both of these potently career-changing roles.

Hoult is currently busy promoting the horror comedy Renfield and the upcoming third season of The Great, but his schedule would’ve probably looked different if he won some of the recent parts that he auditioned for.

“I screen-tested for The Batman and didn’t get it. Screen-tested for Top Gun, didn’t get it. Then I got the call from Tom Cruise: ‘Hey, how about Mission Impossible? ‘Ok. Got it. Then I had to drop out because I was already attached to do some more of The Great,” Hoult told The Guardian.

Despite losing the roles in some of the most acclaimed action movies in recent years, Hoult’s career is on the right track. He received Emmy and Golden Globe nods for his role in The Great, and his last film The Menu was embraced by critics and moviegoers alike.

Hoult will next be seen in Robert Eggers’s Nosferatu alongside Bill Skarsgård, Lily-Rose Depp, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and he’s also eying a role in Clint Eastwood’s Juror No. 2.

Gotham has been warned.

Robert Pattinson will clearly be taking no prisoners when he embodies the Dark Knight for Matt Reeves’ The Batman.

The new trailer for the upcoming film, released at DC FanDome 2021, presents like a film noir. A dark, brooding tone is present, with it apparent that Reeves’ interpretation will be fairly violent.

It was announced during last year’s DC event that The Riddler would be the main villain, with Paul Dano assuming the role. He will be joined by Colin Farrell as Penguin, while Zoë Krawitz takes on Catwoman. The chemistry between her and Pattinson is clearly evident in the trailer, so expect some charged moments!

Speaking of the titular character, the Tenet stars seems to have gotten Batman’s voice down pat(tinson) based on what we’ve heard (sorry, we had to!)

This is also the youngest incarnation of Bruce Wayne that we’ve seen, and you can just feel raw frustration simmering below the surface…

All will be revealed when The Batman hits screens on March 4, 2022.

HBO Max is working on a series about The Penguin that will be a spinoff of The Batman.

Colin Farrell will be playing the supervillain in The Batman and according to sources via Variety, he’s been approached to star in the spinoff series. Lauren LeFranc is attached to write the script, which is in early stages.

The Batman director Matt Reeves and the film’s producer Dylan Clark would executive produce. The show would dive into The Penguin’s rise to power in the Gotham criminal underworld.

The Penguin, a.k.a. Oswald Cobblepot, is one of the famous members of Batman. The character has been played by  Burgess Meredith, Danny DeVito, and Robin Lord Taylor.

The Batman is scheduled to be released in March 2022 in theaters. Robert Pattinson will be playing the Dark Knight and Zoe Kravitz, Paul Dano, Jeffrey Wright, and Andy Serkis are also part of the cast.

If the Penguin series goes forward, it will be the second spinoff series from The Batman at HBO Max. The streamer has ordered a drama set within the Gotham Police Department. There are several DC shows in the works at the network including Suicide Squad spinoff Peacemaker starring John Cena, a Green Lantern series from Greg Berlanti, and a Justice League Dark series from J.J. Abrams.

Matt Reaves’ The Batman is due to arrive in March 2022—after some COVID-19 related hiccups it is on schedule—and HBO Max is planning to expand the movie with a spinoff series. This plan seems now to have hit a snag.

Terence Winter (Broadwalk Empire), who was announced in July as the show’s showrunner and main writer, parted ways with production. The reason for this move was attributed to creative differences between Winter and Reeves and producer Dylan Clark. A search for his replacement is underway.

The show’s working title is Gotham Central, and it will be a prequel to The Batman focusing on the Gotham police department. In August Reeves said the show will go back to Year One when the masked vigilante first appeared in the city and will follow events through the eyes of the police and the corruption that has spread within it.

HBO Max has several DC shows in the works. Green Lantern and Strange Adventures is being created by Greg Berlanti from the Arowverse, Justice League Dark by J.J. Abrahms and John Cena’s character from James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad is getting a spin-off series, Peacemaker.

The Batman director Matt Reeves discussed the upcoming film at the DC FanDome event and shared some exciting news about another project. The director elaborated about the upcoming Gotham P.D. live action series, due to be released on HBO Max. The show is overseen by him alongside Terrence Winter, the writer behind Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street and the creator of HBO’s Boardwalk Empire.

According to Reeves, the new series will serve as a prequel to the movie. It will deal more closely than ever before with the history of corruption in the Gotham police department.

For me, the idea of this story was a story in which Gotham, which has this depth of corruption, and then the idea that we could actually do a series that is going deeper into an aspect of it, which in this case is the corrupt police department and the corrupt inner workings of the city,he said.

“The idea is we go back to year one and year one is the beginning,” Reeves continued. “It’s the first appearance of this masked vigilante that unsettles the city.”

Reeves then detailed how the appearance of Batman and the way that it affects the police force will greatly shape the series.

The release date of the show is yet to be announced, however, it is safe to assume it will drop relatively close to the movie’s release date next fall, in October 2021.

The first trailer for Matt Reeves’ The Batman was revealed during the final panel at DC FanDome.

The trailer, which is set to Nirvana’s “Something in the Way,” mostly features the Riddler (Paul Dano), who’s leaving deadly teasers for the Batman and Commissioner Gordon (Jeffrey Wright). We also see Robert Pattinson in the Batsuit and driving the Batmobile and a few clips of  Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman.

“The hell you suppose to be?” asks the leader of white-painted face gang to the Batman in the trailer. “I’m vengeance,” Robert Pattinson’s Batman replies.

During the panel, Reeves said that The Batman won’t be an origin story, but that it will start in “Year Two” of Batman’s emergence where Batman, Catwoman, the Riddler, and the Penguin (Collin Farrell) are in the beginning stages of their development. Batman also uncovers corruption in the city and how it may tie back to the wealthy and powerful Wayne family.

The film also stars John Turturro, Peter Sarsgaard, Jayme Lawson, and Andy Serkis.

The Batman suspended production due to COVID-19 and it’s supposed to start filming again in early September. Reeves said he’s only shot 25% of the film, which delayed the release from June to October 2021.

The Batman director Matt Reeves has confirmed that he will be directing a Batman spin-off series for HBO Max.

Reeves will be partnering with Terence Winter to create a series that will take place in the same universe as the upcoming Batman cinematic feature. The series does not yet have a title and it is unclear whether Robert Pattison or any of the other stars in the upcoming movie will make an appearance on the show.

What we do know about the series is that it will follow the detectives of Gotham City as they try to save face after Batman becomes the city’s favorite vigilante.

HBO Max said that the show will “build upon the motion picture’s examination of the anatomy of corruption in Gotham City, ultimately launching a new Batman universe across multiple platforms. The series provides an unprecedented opportunity to extend the world established in the movie and further explore the myriad of compelling and complex characters of Gotham.”

The Batman feature will be released in movie theaters October 1, 2021.

Michael Keaton is reportedly in talks to reprise his role as the infamous caped superhero, Batman.

Keaton last played the DC superhero in Tim Burton’s Batman Returns (1992). Almost thirty years on, Keaton is rumored to be returning in the upcoming DC Extended Universe movie, The Flash.

According to The Wrap, it is currently unclear whether Keaton will be appearing alongside Ezra Miller in the feature. If he does, it may be that his role is small.

The Flash will introduce fans to the concept of the DC multiverse. This means that Robert Pattinson’s portrayal of Batman would not be impacted by Keaton’s possible return.

As it stands, Pattinson is set to make his debut as the caped hero next fall. The release date of The Batman was previously June 2021 but it has since been pushed back as a result of delayed production due to the coronavirus.
