]]>The Weeknd’s fans received an email from the ticketing companies announcing the postponement of the Australian leg of his most recent tour, which reads the following:
“Due to unforeseen circumstances, we must reschedule the Australia/New Zealand tour. New dates will be announced next year and current tickets will be valid for the new shows. Refunds will be available for those unable to attend the new dates. Deeply disappointed but can’t wait to be there with you!”
The Weeknd was supposed to kick off a new series of concerts at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium on November 20. The Australian leg of his tour also included three concerts in Sydney, four in Melbourne, and two in Auckland, and they’ll all be rescheduled at a later date.
After Hours til Dawn Tour kicked off in July last year, in support of The Weeknd’s albums After Hours and Dawn FM. He performed over 60 concerts in North America, Europe, and Latin America before deciding to postpone the Oceania leg.

]]>The Idol centered on an aspiring pop idol Jocelyn (Lily-Rose Depp), trying to make a comeback after canceling her last tour in the wake of her mother’s death. Her life turns upside down after she meets Tedros (The Weeknd), a sinister nightclub owner with a mysterious past.
In addition to the leading duo, The Idol also starred Troye Sivan, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Dan Levy, Eli Roth, Hari Nef, Jane Adams, Jennie Ruby Jane, Mike Dean, Moses Sumney, Rachel Sennott, Suzanna Son, and Hank Azaria.
The show was developed for HBO by Euphoria’s Sam Levinson, and it stirred controversy before it even premiered, after the director Amy Seimetz left the project due to creative differences.
The first two episodes of The Idol premiered at the 76th Cannes Film Festival in May, ahead of the show’s HBO premiere on June 4. Despite being met with a five-minute standing ovation at the festival, The Idol was panned by the critics and it currently holds a shockingly low 19% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

]]>Scott took things into his own hands when it came to directing the “K-POP” music video and found a way to capture the world of all three artists involved in the song’s making. The “K-POP” visual takes us everywhere from a stadium full of motorbikes to a futuristic pink mansion that looks straight out of a sci-fi movie.
Scott is no stranger to A-list collaborations and seeing him join forces with The Weeknd and Bad Bunny doesn’t come as a shocker. In addition to collaborating with The Weeknd on several songs – most recently “Power is Power” ft. SZA—he also hopped on the remix of Bad Bunny’s “Krippy Kush” ft. Farruko and Rvssian.
“K-POP” serves as the lead single on Utopia, Scott’s first studio album since the release of Astroworld five years ago. This LP is expected to hit the shelves by the end of the month, and the Grammy-nominated rapper will promote it with an exclusive launch event which will be live-streamed from the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt on July 28.

]]>New York Post’s Page Six was the first to come forward with the reports that The Idol will come to a close after Season 1. They cited an anonymous source who claimed that this “was never meant to be a long-running show, it was always a limited series.”
The news spread across social media like wildfire, and HBO bosses were quick to react. They took to social media to address the rumors about the show’s future, denying its cancelation.
“It is being misreported that a decision on a second season of The Idol has been determined. It has not, and we look forward to sharing the next episode with you Sunday night,” HBO wrote in a tweet.
The Idol centers on a troubled pop star Jocelyn (Lily-Rose Depp), who develops a complicated relationship with a mysterious nightclub owner Tedros (Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye). The series was met with a negative response in the face of an alleged behind-the-scenes drama, but that didn’t stop it from attracting solid viewership across its first two episodes.

Working with Madonna is a dream come true for The Weeknd, and he’s hoping this collaboration is just the beginning of something great.
“I’ve always wanted to write and produce a Madonna album. Well, co-produce with her, of course… because she’s a visionary and she has such a singular vision. I just want to come into her world and create a classic Madonna album. That was always my dream,” he told Zane Lowe.
The full soundtrack for The Idol will hit the shelves on June 30, and it will also include the previously released lead single “Double Fantasy” ft. Future. The Weeknd co-wrote and co-produced the entire album for this show alongside Metro Boomin and Mike Dean.

]]>The Weeknd discussed his upcoming HBO show The Idol alongside Lily-Rose Depp with W Magazine, but he also touched upon his plans for the future as a musician. He revealed he’s thinking about releasing music under his birth name because he wants to “kill The Weeknd” and be reborn.
“The album I’m working on now is probably my last hurrah as The Weeknd. This is something that I have to do. As The Weeknd, I’ve said everything I can say… It’s getting to a place and a time where I’m getting ready to close the Weeknd chapter,” he told W Magazine.
Tesfaye released five albums under The Weeknd moniker, including his latest LP Dawn FM last year. He embraced this stage name in honor of a turbulent time in his life, when he dropped out of school, left his parents’ home one weekend, and never came back. He decided to drop the “E” to avoid copyright problems with the Canadian pop-rock band The Weekend.

“Double Fantasy” shares its title with John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s studio album of the same name, which is a fitting connection given the premise of The Idol. This HBO series will explore a complicated relationship between the rising pop star Jocelyn (Lily-Rose Depp) and the mysterious self-help guru Tedros (The Weeknd).

The Idol will premiere on HBO on June 4, and The Weeknd himself created the soundtrack for this series alongside Mike Dean.

]]>This news comes shortly after The Weeknd set two new Guinness World Records, reaching the most monthly listener on Spotify with 111.4 million and becoming the first artist to cross 100 million monthly listeners on Spotify.
The Weeknd previously acknowledged his record-breaking successes and picked up two Guinness World Records certificates in 2016—the most streamed album on Spotify in 2015 and most consecutive weeks in the Top 10 of Billboard’s Hot 100 by a solo male artist.
The Weeknd’s latest success comes on the heels of the recently released “Die For You” remix featuring Ariana Grande. After the original song went viral on TikTok, Grande hopped on the remix and helped The Weeknd propel this song to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Miley Cyrus came in second in Guinness World Records’ analysis with 82.4 million monthly listeners, and she’s followed by Shakira (81.6 million), Ariana Grande (80.6 million), Taylor Swift (80.2 million), Rihanna (78.5 million), and Ed Sheeran (77.5 million).

This song experienced a rise in popularity thanks to TikTok and peaked at No. 6 before Grande even jumped on board.
“Die for You” is the latest example of TikTok bringing long-forgotten songs back from obscurity. This track was just a modest success when it was originally released as a part of The Weeknd’s 2016 album Starboy, and it originally debuted at No. 43.
Joining forces with Grande proved to be the winning formula for The Weeknd for the second time. The duo previously topped the Billboard Hot 100 with the remix of his song “Save Your Tears”. “Die for You” is their fourth collaboration together – they also worked on “Love Me Harder” from Grande’s sophomore album My Everything and “Off The Table” from Grande’s sixth studio album Positions.
