That modern Stone Age family that many of us grew up with is set to become even more modern.

Warner Bros. Animation is bringing The Flintstones to a whole new generation in the form of a primetime animated adult comedy series.

First broadcast in 1960, the cartoon followed the adventures of Fred and Wilma Flintstone and their friends Barney and Betty Rubble in the town of Bedrock.

The new series is said to be in the early stages of development and will be a joint project between Warner Bros. and Brownstone Production which belongs to actress and director, Elizabeth Banks.

While the original show contained many adult jokes that flew of its younger viewers’ heads, children will not be left out of the Flintstone fun as a series based on their children Pebbles and Bam-Bam called Yabba-Dabba Dinosaurs! is set to premiere on Boomerang next year.
