Hey oh, the Red Hot Chili Peppers say they’re almost done with their next album!

It has been more than 5 years since the “Snow” rockers released The Getaway, but their upcoming 12h studio album is expected to drop before they embark on their global concert tour next summer.

According to drummer Chad Smith, the group is “really listening to each other in a new way” as they finish up recording.

There is also a sense of familiarity for the band as this will be the first album to feature John Frusciante in a decade. The guitarist returned after his own replacement, John Klinghoffer, bowed out two years ago.

“[Frusciante’s] been back for a while now, so it feels completely natural. He’s so into it. He’s working so hard. We’re all working hard, but he’s in there with all the overdubs and the magic that he brings,” Smith told Rolling Stone

The drummer admitted, however, that things will sound a little different as Frusciante was not part of the band between 2009 and 2019, but “it’s gonna sound like the four of us because we do have this special chemistry together.”

“It sounds like Red Hot Chili Peppers,” Smith confirmed.
