Goldman, along with Esplanade Productions, claims that Disney took his ideas for his pitch of Zootopia and turned it into a movie without his permission.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, back in November 2017, the case was dismissed in Federal Court by Federal Judge Michael Fitzgerald, who stated that “The similarities between Goldman’s work and Zootopia are not many or ‘striking’; they are few, random, and superficial.” On February 13th Esplanade Productions filed a complaint to bring the lawsuit back into court.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Esplanade Productions stated that “Disney used Goldman’s concept for Zootopia as ‘a metaphor for life and for America,’ where ‘an animal can be whatever he wants to be.’ Thus, Esplanade is informed and believes that Disney did not create its Zootopia from scratch but, rather, used Goldman’s materials as the basis for its movie.”
Esplanade Productions along with Goldman are seeking compensatory damages and an injunction against Disney for using anymore elements of Goldman’s initial pitch of Zootopia.

]]>Recently, the married couple spoke on CBS This Morning and they stated that a lawsuit has been brought against the previous owners and Real Estate agency of $3 million because both parties did not inform them that this mansion was featured in a television series, which has a very loyal and crazed fan base.
According to CBS News, the couple explain that on a daily basis there are hundreds of fans that try to trespass in order to get a closer look at the house. In order to give themselves some privacy, the couple even built a fence around the house, but this defense has done nothing to keep the fans from trespassing and taking pictures of the property.
According to Variety, the couple does not wish to sell the mansion, but are seeking punitive and compensatory damages. In an interview with CBS News, Schwartz argued that “We feel like they cheated us. We want to live here of course, but it’s very difficult especially since we don’t feel safe.”

]]>Hall and Butler filed the lawsuit with their lawyers last fall because they claim that Taylor Swift’s song “Shake it Off” holds a similar resemblance to their song. They specifically claim that the line “Players gonna play, play, play, play, play, and haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate,” is very similar to the line in their song “Playas, they gonna play, and haters, they gonna hate.”
According to Variety, Fitzgerald explained that “By 2001, American popular culture was heavily steeped in the concepts of players, haters, and player haters.” he adds that “It is hardly surprising that Plaintiffs, hoping to convey the notion that one should persist regardless of others’ thoughts or actions, focused on both players playing and haters hating.” However, he states that “combining two truisms about playas and haters, both well-worn notions as of 2001, is simply not enough.”Fitzgerald dismissed the case because the lyrics in question were unoriginal and therefore did not warrant Copyright Act protection.
He urged the plaintiffs not to resubmit the lawsuit – unless there were other ways to show copyright infringement.
