Karl Lagerfeld left a lasting mark on the modern fashion industry, and Disney+ is honoring his legacy with a new series. Daniel Brühl landed the lead role in the upcoming series Kaiser Karl, which will chronicle the iconic fashion designer’s rise to prominence.

According to its official logline, this six-part series “will chronicle the rise of Karl Lagerfeld through the world of 1970s Parisian high fashion.” The series is expected to capture “the clan rivalries and ego battles of the high fashion world” and “the epic partying and decadence, tragic love affairs and friendships which marked Lagerfeld’s life.”

Before passing away in 2019, Lagerfeld established himself as one of the most iconic fashion designers in the world and reigned supreme over several luxury brands. He served as the creative director of Chanel from 1983 until his death, in addition to serving as creative director of Fendi and his own eponymous fashion label.

The show is currently shooting in France, Monaco, and Italy, with Jérôme Salle and Audrey Estrougo attached to direct. In addition to Brühl, who recently appeared in Oscar-nominated anti-war epic All Quiet on the Western Front, the series will also star Sunnyi Melles as Marlene Dietrich, Jeanne Damas as Paloma Picasso, Paul Spera as Andy Warhol, Théodore Pellerin as Jacques de Bascher, and Arnaud Valois Yves Saint Laurent.
