We haven’t seen Emmy Rossum take on a major TV role ever since leaving Shameless, but her next project was worth the wait. She’s set to portray the billboard queen Angelyne in Peacock’s upcoming limited series about her life.

In the days before reality TV and social media, Angelyne managed to find a way to become an overnight sensation. Countless billboards with her face appeared all around Los Angeles, transforming her into one of the biggest pop culture icons in this city during the ’80s.

That’s one of the reasons why Rossum was drawn to this role, and she told People that she spent the better part of the past four years “thinking, living, and breathtaking this project.”

“I love Angelyne. She’s as if Marilyn Monroe got into an Easy-Bake oven with an ’80s punk Barbie Doll and a dose of New Age spirituality. She’s a trailblazer, a hustler, a visionary, the original influencer, a living, breathing piece of art,” explained Rossum.

In addition to Rossum, the series will also star Martin Freeman (Sherlock), Hamish Linklater (Midnight Mass), Michael Angarano (This Is Us), and Lukas Gage (Euphoria). It’s set to premiere on Peacock on May 19 and it will consist of five episodes.
