Joker: Folie à Deux is one of the most exciting sequels currently in development and its director Todd Phillips just added some more fuel to the fire. He celebrated Valentine’s Day by sharing the first image of Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix by each other’s side.

The first image shows Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn staring into Phoenix’s Joker eyes, with a frantic look on her face. She’s holding his paint-covered face in her hands, and the two characters are just a few inches apart, hinting at the intimacy that exists within them.

Gaga joined the film in the role of Harley Quinn/Harleen Quinzell, a psychiatrist who was meant to study Arthur Fleck and his Joker persona before falling into his twisted world. Her casting initially left people puzzled because it hasn’t been long since Margot Robbie portrayed this character, but the Babylon actress gave Gaga her seal of approval.

Gaga’s involvement also makes sense because Joker: Folie à Deux will be a musical, and it’s set in DC Elseworlds instead of being a part of the traditional DC Universe. In addition to the two leads, the film will also star Zazie Beetz, Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Jacob Lofland, and Harry Lawtey, and it’s scheduled to be released on October 4, 2024.
