Jared Leto has expressed a desire to play Jeff Buckley in a potential new biopic, penned by Buckley’s former manager, Dave Lory.

Lory has recently released a new book titled Jeff Buckley: From Hallelujah To The Last Goodbye. In an interview with Desperate Times, he spoke about the possibility of turning the book into a new movie.

“I have been approached, and there are some people reading the book right now. Movies take a long time, I don’t claim to be an expert at it, but the basis is there,” he said.

“The two people who are reading it, I can’t name obviously because they haven’t said yes, but they said, ‘The Jeff Buckley story hasn’t been told, and we’re huge fans.’ So that’s a start, but one of them said, ‘Wow it’s got the love story, you meet your wife on the road with Jeff Buckley. You get married, you have two kids, there’s tragedy, there’s musical genius. It’s got everything you need.’”

When asked about who would play the role of Jeff Buckley, he mentioned both Jared Leto and Christian Bale have expressed a desire to be involved:

“Jared Leto wanted to play him,” he said. “I know the estate was trying to do a movie, and they’ve had several false starts. But there are enough people out there, and some other people who have talked about playing me, so we’ll see.”

“I heard Christian Bale, which would be a compliment because I’m not that good looking,” he continued.
