Jesse Spencer is one of the actors who made Chicago Fire what it is today, but he’s getting ready to leave it all behind. After playing Matthew Casey for a total of 10 seasons, Spencer announced his departure from the beloved NBC drama.

The 200th episode of the show serves as Spencer’s last, and it sees his character moving to Oregon to look after the sons of the late Firehouse 51 legend Andy Darden. Spencer said that Casey’s departure feels pretty organic, both for the character and for himself.

“It’s been a long time coming when you know how these compadres have gone through life and death together. It’s hard to say goodbye, you know, see you soon, kind of thing. It was bittersweet but I really enjoyed it and we got some laughs out of it,” Spencer told reporters.

The actor also discussed his exit with US Weekly and said he decided to make this move because he wants to take care of his family and commit to other projects in the future. Together with his time starring on House, this marks his 18th year of network television and he feels it’s time to take a break because “that’s a long stretch”.
