Nicki Minaj’s new songs are always worth waiting for, and her latest is no exception. The hip-hop icon knocked us off our feet with her much-anticipated new single “Last Time I Saw You”, which allowed her to put her vocal abilities on full display.
“I wish I’d hugged you tighter the last time that I saw you/I wish I didn’t waste precious time the night when I called you,” sings Minaj in the song’s emotional hook before breaking into a rap in the next verse, while still keeping the lyrics reflective and moving.
“Last Time I Saw You” was released as one of the singles from Minaj’s upcoming fifth studio album Pink Friday 2, the spiritual successor to her debut album Pink Friday from 2010. It will be released on November 17, and she described it as a “fierce, fun, and unapologetic” record.
“It’s probably the most excited I’ve been about an album release in a really long time. I’m happy that we’re not making my fans wait for another album like I’ve done in the past. This one incorporates all the things people love about Nicki, but it also just has a way bigger sound,” she explained in an interview with Elle.
