The trailer for Ratched has landed and Sarah Paulson’s Nurse Mildred Ratched is just as menacing as we expected.
Ratched will tell the iconic villain from One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest’s story. The trailer shows Mildred Ratched moving to North Carolina to start her job at a leading psychiatric hospital. On the outside, she looks put together, but the ominous cinematography and music tell a different story.
“You have been subjected to enough pain, but you deserve someone to show you mercy,” she says to a patient in the trailer. “How different I would be if someone had.”
The series, which will be two seasons and 18 episodes, will show how Mildred starts as an average nurse and transforms into the villain from Ken Kesey’s novel and the subsequent film. Mildred conducts experiments at the hospital, which shows that people aren’t born evil, but they can become monsters.
Ratched is created by Evan Romansky and executive produced by Ian Brennan and Ryan Murphy. Cynthia Nixon, Judy Davis, Sharon Stone, Jon Jon Briones, Finn Wittrock, Charlie Carver, Alice Englert, Amanda Plummer, Corey Stoll, Sophie Okonedo, Brandon Flynn, and Vincent D’Onofrio also star in the series.
Ratched is set to premiere on September 18 on Netflix.
