]]>The first part of season one saw the Gossip Girl revival having the best launch for an HBO Max original series in 2021. The second part of season one is set to debut in November.
The original Gossip Girl had a six-season run on The CW between 2007 and 2012. The series was based on a novel written by Cecily von Ziegesar and followed a group of privileged teens living in Manhattan’s Upper East Side. The viewers learned about their deepest secrets through narration provided by a mysterious blogger, who was voiced by Kristen Bell.
HBO Max’s Gossip Girl revival has the same formula and setting as the original, but follows a group of different characters. Bell returned as a narrator while Josh Schwartz, who created The CW’s show, serves as a producer. The series stars Jordan Alexander, Whitney Peak, Tavi Gevinson, Eli Brown, and Thomas Doherty in the lead roles.
While the revival was a hit among the HBO Max audience, the critics didn’t share the same opinion. The first batch of episodes was almost universally panned, holding a 38 percent approval on the review-aggregation website and being described as an “ambitious misfire.”

Gossip Girl aired on The CW from 2007-2012 and it was about a group of New York socialites whose secrets are revealed by a blogger. The cast included Blake Lively, Penn Badgley, Leighton Meester, Chase Crawford, and Ed Westwick.
Bell is the first original cast member who’s set to return.
Chase Crawford voiced an interest in returning to the reboot back in October to EW, “I just love Josh and Stephanie and if they wanted me to come and do anything it would be hard to say no. I’m always grateful for the opportunity they gave me and that whole experience — it was all of my 20s, it was like my college, living in New York for that time. I’ll always have fond memories of it.”
We’re still waiting to hear more about the reboot and we’ll report news as soon as we hear anything.

]]>The showrunner of the original series, Joshua Safran, broke the news in a recent interview with Hollywood Reporter. He’ll be in charge of writing and executive producing the show, with Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage serving as creators.
It’s highly unlikely we’ll see any of our favorite characters in the new version of Gossip Girl. Safran described it as an extension of the original show, and said they’re interested in exploring this concept in a new landscape, and not redoing it once again.
“Eight years after the original website went dark, a new generation of New York private school teens are introduced to the social surveillance of Gossip Girl. The prestige series will address just how much social media – and the landscape of New York itself – has changed in the intervening years,” reads the official logline of the new show.
