Well, the “Hurricane” rapper has now joined those ranks.

After going by the nickname “Ye” for years, a judge has now granted a request for Kanye to officially change his name to the singular syllable moniker, forgoing his middle and last name. 

The Grammy winner first announced that he wanted to change his name three years ago, citing personal reasons. He has used the abbreviated version of Kanye as his name on social media since, and Ye is also the title of his eighth studio album which dropped in 2018.

“I believe ‘ye’ is the most commonly used word in the Bible, and in the Bible it means ‘you,’” the artist said during an interview with Big Boy in June that year.

After the album was released Sunday, West claimed on social media that Universal released the 27-song album without his approval.

The name served as a title for his eighth studio album while also being prominently displayed on his social media pages. That same year, West partially explained his fascination with the name during an interview with American radio host Big Boy.

“I believe ‘ye’ is the most commonly used word in the Bible, and in the Bible it means ‘you,'” said West. “So I’m you, I’m us, it’s us. It went from Kanye, which means the only one, to just Ye – just being a reflection of our good, our bad, our confused, everything.”
