]]>The Scottish singer announced his departure in a cheeky social media post and said he’ll return later this year when he has some new music to share with the world.
“Hope you all had a lovely Christmas and New Year and I’ll see you, big lovely bastards, later in the year with some new music that imagine will be universally panned by critics and will fail to be as commercially successful as my last outing,” wrote Capaldi on Twitter.
The singer’s debut album Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent came out in 2019 and became certified gold in the UK only a week after its release. The lead single “Someone You Loved” hit no. 1 in both the UK and the U.S., and received a Grammy nomination for song of the year.

]]>This exciting series will see some of the world’s leading recording artists covering songs that were on top of the charts on the day they were born; The Chemical Brothers and Noel Gallagher collaboration “Setting Sun”, in Capaldi’s case.
Luke Hyams, YouTube’s head of originals in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, discussed the project with Deadline and expressed his hope it will allow the viewers to learn something new about artists’ creative process and their personal journey.
“I was fascinated to hear the early story of an artist. I’m interested in how their parents met, what was going on in the world around the time they were conceived and what their early life was like. This format allows us to do just that,” explained Hyams.

“Sometimes you write songs and you sing them and you go, ‘I’m f–king s–te at this’. I said, ‘I don’t know, I’m not very good at singing this’. And they go, ‘How about you get someone who can sing it?’” Capaldi explained in one of his Instagram stories.
“How to Be Lonely” is Ora’s first solo single since 2018, but she released several pretty epic collaborations last year – including “Carry On” with Kygo, and “Only Want You” featuring 6lack. Ora is currently working on her third album, but she’s yet to reveal crucial details about this record.

]]>Capaldi dethroned Lizzo, who spent seven weeks on the top spot with her empowering anthem “Truth Hurts”. It currently shares the title of the longest-leading rap song by a female artist on the chart with Iggy Azalea’s 2014 hit track “Fancy”.
“Someone You Loved” is Capaldi’s first song to ever enter the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It initially debuted at no. 85, and it took a total of 24 weeks for this moving track to reach the top. The song was originally released on November 8th, 2018 before being included on the singer’s debut album Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent.
It took six months for Lewis Capaldi to finish this song that was completely forgotten after the singer recorded the verse on his phone. The open-ended lyrics of this track focus on letting go of a person who means a lot to you, while the music video centers on a widow coping with the death of his wife.
