The post 2024 BAFTA TV Awards: “The Crown” & “Black Mirror” Lead Nominations appeared first on EverydayKoala.
]]>The Crown ended with a bang last year after six seasons, and BAFTA TV Awards voters honored its final season with eight nominations. Surprisingly enough, the best drama series wasn’t one of them, and The Gold, Happy Valley, Slow Horses, and Top Boy made the cut instead.
That didn’t stop The Crown from scoring four nods in the acting categories, for Dominic West, Elizabeth Debecki, Lesley Manville, and Salim Daw. It also secured four more nominations in the craft field, including best costume design, makeup/hair design, sound, and special effects.
It was also a great day for Netflix’s anthology series Black Mirror, which has been nominated for seven BAFTA TV Awards. Its episode “Demon 79” is one of the main contenders for best limited drama award, while its star Anjana Vasan received a nomination for best leading actress.
The 2024 British Academy Television Awards will take place on May 12 at the Royal Festival Hall in London.

]]>Ed McVey and Luther Ford are joining the series as the older versions of Prince William and Prince Harry, while newcomer Meg Bellamy will portray Kate Middleton. Season 6 will chronicle the beginning of her fairytale romance with Prince William, but this will only be one of the major storylines explored.
Part 2 will kick off with Prince William going back to Eton and trying to integrate back into his life there following his mother’s death. Queen Elizabeth will have to reflect on the future of the monarchy as she reaches her Golden Jubilee, while the marriage of Charles and Camilla is looming on the horizon.
In addition to the trio of newcomers, Imelda Staunton (Queen Elizabeth), Jonathan Pryce (Prince Philip), Lesley Manville (Princess Margaret), Dominic West (Prince Charles), and Olivia Williams (Camilla Parker Bowles) also star. ]]>Season 6 of The Crown will chronicle Princess Diana’s death, but her car crash in Paris will play out off-screen. The audience will still get to see the heavy media attention Diana and her partner Dodi Fayed had to deal with, and these scenes were among the most difficult to film for Debicki.
The Emmy-nominated actress discussed the paparazzi scene in a recent interview with Netflix and said described the task of filming them as “heavy and very manic and incredibly invasive.”
“Trying to get from one place to another and to have this swarm around you, you feel very trapped… It’s really horrendous to have that many people yelling at you and wanting something. So we let it happen because it feels like a very important part of the story to tell” she explained.
In addition to Debicki, the final season of The Crown will also star Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth, Jonathan Pryce as Prince Philip, Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret, Dominic West as Prince Charles, and Khalid Abdalla as Dodi Fayed. Part 1, consisting of four episodes, will premiere on Netflix on November 16, while Part 2 will arrive on December 14.

]]>The post “The Crown” Season 6 Trailer Captures Princess Diana’s Darkest Days appeared first on EverydayKoala.
]]>The trailer opens with a montage of melancholic scenes from Lady Di’s life, and she’s shown playing the piano, looking out to sea in her iconic blue swimsuit, and being followed by paparazzi at every turn.
“Don’t really understand how I ended up here. Dashing around and losing sight of myself in the process. I think that’s been the story of my whole life,” says Elizabeth Debicki’s Diana in the opening scenes of the trailer.
The rest of the trailer shows how other members of the royal family are dealing with the media attention Diana is facing, with Queen Elizabeth (Imelda Staunton) saying, “All one wants is for that girl to find peace.”
In addition to Staunton as Queen Elizabeth and Debicki as Princess Diana, the final season of the royal drama will also star Jonathan Pryce (Prince Philip), Lesley Manville (Princess Margaret), Dominic West (Prince Charles), Salim Daw (Mohamed Al Fayed), and Khalid Abdalla (Dodi Fayed).
The Crown will return on November 16 with the first four episodes, while Season 6 – Part 2 will be available for streaming on December 14.

]]>The new teaser sees Queen Elizabeth climbing up the stairs and shows her transformation through the years, while her younger self delivers a powerful speech.
“The Crown is a symbol of permanence. It’s something you are, not what you do. Some portion of our natural selves is always lost. We have all made sacrifices. It is not a choice. It is a duty. But what about the life I put aside? The woman I put aside,” she can be heard saying in the teaser’s voiceover.
Imelda Staunton will return as Queen Elizabeth in the show’s final season, alongside Jonathan Pryce (Prince Philip), Lesley Manville (Princess Margaret), Elizabeth Debicki (Princess Diana), Dominic West (Prince Charles), Salim Daw (Mohamed Al Fayed), and Khalid Abdalla (Dodi Fayed).
Season 6 of The Crown will return to Netflix next month, and it will be divided into two parts. The first four episodes will premiere on November 16, while the remaining six will be available for streaming on December 14.

]]>When the Netflix series returns for its fifth season, it will cover one of the most shocking events that the royal family has had to endure—the death of Diana, Princess of Wales.
The car that Diana was traveling in was fleeing from the paparazzi when it crashed on August 31, 1997. The People’s Princess, as she was affectionately known, was only 36 at the time. The other passengers in the vehicle—including her companion Dodi Fayed—also died.
Producers of The Crown have now cast The Kite Runner star, Khalid Abdalla, as Fayed, while Elizabeth Debicki who most recently starred in Tenet will take over from Emma Corrin as Diana.
The rest of the cast has also been updated for the final two seasons, with Imelda Staunton starring as Queen Elizabeth II and Dominic West as Prince Charles.
Netflix has yet to announce when season 5 of The Crown will be released.

]]>What makes The Crown’s victory so impressive is the fact it picked up the awards in all of the categories it was nominated in. In addition to walking away with the outstanding drama series award, it also received trophies in all four drama acting categories and picked up trophies for outstanding directing and writing for a drama series.
Ted Lasso won the award for outstanding comedy series, while its stars Jason Sudeikis, Hannah Waddingham, and Brett Goldstein picked up acting awards in their supportive categories. HBO Max series Hacks also had a strong showing and picked up three awards, including the outstanding lead actress in a comedy series for Jean Smart.
When it came to mini-series, Mare of Easttown stars Kate Winslet, Evan Peters, and Julianne Nicholson brought its award total to three. The critically acclaimed HBO drama, however, failed to beat The Queen’s Gambit and missed out on the award for outstanding limited or anthology series.
The 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards were held on September 19th, with Cedric the Entertainer hosting the festivities.

]]>Ed McVey and Luther Ford are joining the series as the older versions of Prince William and Prince Harry, while newcomer Meg Bellamy will portray Kate Middleton.

]]>The post 2021 Emmy Awards: “The Crown” Dominates the List of Winners appeared first on EverydayKoala.
