With $13 billion grossed over his four-decades-long career, Tom Cruise is one of the biggest action stars in Hollywood—and he just found a new partner in crime. The Oscar-nominated actor formed a new strategic partnership with Warner Bros., set to include original and franchise theatrical titles.

Cruise and Warner Bros. go a way back, and he starred in multiple high-profile projects for the studio, including his hit movies The Last Samurai, Magnolia, Eyes Wide Shut, and Interview with the Vampire. Their collaboration ended with sci-fi action flick Edge of Tomorrow in 2014, but they’re finally coming back for another ride!

Cruise will develop and produce original and franchise films which he’ll star in through his new strategic partnership with Warner Bros. and he can’t wait to get to work with David Zaslav, Michael De Luca, and Pam Abdy.

“I have great respect and admiration for David, Pam, Mike, and the entire team at Warner Bros. Discovery and their commitment to movies, movie fans, and the theatrical experience. I look forward to making great movies together!” said Cruise in a statement.

Cruise’s Warner Bros. partnership isn’t an exclusive nor first-look deal, and he’ll continue his collaboration with Paramount on the Mission: Impossible franchise, in addition to working on a new space movie with Doug Liman for Universal.

Wonder Woman fans have been dealt a blow by DC Studios.

James Gunn and Peter Safran took on the joint roles of chairperson and CEO at the beginning of November after advising Warner Bros. Discovery CEO, David Zaslav, during his search for a head of DC Films.

Although it was released during the pandemic and didn’t receive as good a response as the original which broke box office records, a sequel to Wonder Woman 1984 was announced shortly after it was re-released in theatres. Sadly, it seems that Wonder Woman 3 will not be going ahead as planned.

Director Patty Jenkins is believed to have handed in a treatment of the new film, but was told that it did not align with Gunn and Safran’s new vision for the DC Universe and that the project would thus not be made. Although neither Jenkins nor Warner Bros. has commented, Wonder Woman star, Gal Gadot, did post an intriguing message on social media.

“A few years ago it was announced that I was going to play Wonder Woman. I’ve been so grateful for the opportunity to play such an incredible, iconic character and more than anything I’m grateful for YOU. The fans. Can’t wait to share her next chapter with you.”

We’re sorry, Aquaman fans, but the sequel to the 2018 blockbuster is still a long way off…

The follow-up to the origin story starring Jason Momoa as the titular character was meant to hit screens next March, but issues at Warner Bros. has pushed back the release date. As a result, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will only be released on December 25, 2023.

Another film feeling the effects of the studio restructuring is the Shazam! sequel. Shazam! Fury of the Gods was initially set to premiere this December, but will instead come out on March 17, 2023—Aquaman’s original date.

The moves follow the merger of WarnerMedia and Discovery, Inc in April this year. The head of the Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group stepped down in May, leading to DC Films, Warner Bros. Pictures, New Line Cinema, and Warner Animation Group all receiving their own leadership. Warner Bros. Discovery has been looking to spread out the marketing and distribution costs associated with releasing a studio tentpole, resulting in Aquaman and Shazam! being shuffled on the calendar.

Although the delay is disappointing, fans of both franchises can breathe a sigh of relief that the movies didn’t suffer the same fate as Batgirl which was totally shelved, despite being complete and costing $90 million to produce.

It looks as though Batgirl is set to remain in the shadows…

Back in 2021, Warner Bros. decided to create a number of feature films specifically for HBO Max. Amongst those greenlit for the streaming network was Batgirl. The film would be based on the DC Comics character, Barbara Gordon, who is the daughter of Gotham City’s police commissioner and moonlights as a vigilante.

Leslie Grace of In The Heights had been cast in the titular role with Spider-Man: No Way Home star J.K. Simmons playing Commissioner James Gordon, Doom Patrol actor Brendan Fraser as Firefly, and Morbius star Michael Keaton appearing as Batman.

Filming took place in Scotland between November 2021 and March 2022 with Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah of Bad Boys fame helming the project.

Despite the movie being complete, Warner Bros. has decided not to release it on HBO Max or, in fact, anywhere at all. The decision is reportedly due to the company’s desire for DC films to rather be theatrical blockbusters. As Batgirl was budgeted to screen in homes on HBO Max, and not for a major global release in theaters, the $90 million production has effectively been killed.

The Scooby-Doo adaptation, Scoob!: Holiday Haunt, which would have served as a sequel to the 2020 film, Scoob!, has also been shelved by the studio.

Brace yourselves, the Warner Brothers Yakko, Wakko, and the Warner sister Dot will soon return to your screens. Hulu announced that the reboot for Warner Bros. family-friendly cartoon, Animaniacs, will premiere on November 20th.

The new season of the beloved animated show, which is returning to the screen 22 years after its initial run, will include 13 new episodes. The show is a collaboration between Amblin Television and Warner Bros. Animation.

“After returning to their beloved home, the Warner Bros. Water Tower, the Animaniacs waste no time in causing chaos and comic confusion as they run loose through the studio and beyond, turning the world into their personal playground,” a press release for the new series reads.

But the siblings are not alone in their chaotic quest. Also returning is the world’s most devious mice duo Pinky and the Brain (well, half devious). The duo will resume its world domination efforts.

The original cast of the show is returning in the reboot—Rob Paulsen (Yakko, Pinky, and Dr. Scratchansniff), Jess Harnell (as Wakko), Tress MacNeille, and Maurice LaMarche (The Brain and Squit). Steven Spielberg is returning as executive producer. A second season was also announced for November 2021.

Christofer Nolan’s latest film, Tenet, had a long road to the screens. Is this road now, finally, coming to an end? The movie, which was supposed to premiere earlier this month, was delayed several times due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now it finally gets a new premiere date.

The most recent change the movie had seen was its pulling out from the August release calendar by Warner Bros. now the studio announced Tenet will have an early international premiere in 70 countries on August 26. Then, on September 4, it will premiere in “select cities” in the U.S.

The movie will premiere first in countries such as Belgium, Germany, Denmark, the UK, and other European countries as well as Australia, Korea, Egypt, Thailand, Indonesia, and more. It will hit Canada a day before it will arrive in the U.S. on September 3.

By releasing the movie early abroad, Warner Bros. hopes to make the best of the situation in which many countries around the world see a relative decline of the pandemic, while many cities in the U.S. still struggle with the disease. This ,means that  theaters remain closed in major markets such as New York and Los Angeles.

Warner Bros. has faced some difficulties with its productions over the last few years and has been fighting a seemingly lost battle against Marvel Studios in the box offices. Justice League, for example, which was supposed to be a big hit that will help the DC universe achieve its potential, ended up costing the studio up to 100 million dollars.

Now, the studio is coming up with a surprising solution to help them make better business decisions. THR reports that Warner bros. signed with Cinelytic’s artificially intelligent project management system which will evaluate different factors regarding future projects and recommend whether to go ahead with them or not. The final decision, however, will be left to human hands.

“The system can calculate in seconds what used to take days to assess by a human when it comes to general film package evaluation or a star’s worth,” says Cinelytic’s founder Tobias Queisser. The AI system will determine the probability of success for films based on their budgets, brand, and associated talent.

Warner Bros.’ senior vice president of distribution, Tonis Kiis told THR that “the more precise our data is, the better we will be able to engage our audiences.”

Get ready to re-enter The Matrix.

That’s right! After a 16 year slumber, the hit cyber-action franchise is being rebooted is making a comeback with multiple outlets confirming that a fourth Matrix movie is coming.

But we have more good news! The upcoming new installment will star original leads Keanu Reeves as Neo and Carrie-Anne Moss as Trinity. Also reprising her original role is co-creator, Lana Wachowski, will also return to write, direct and produce.

“We could not be more excited to be re-entering The Matrix with Lana,” said Toby Emmerich, chairman of Warner Bros Pictures Group. “Lana is a true visionary — a singular and original creative filmmaker — and we are thrilled that she is writing, directing and producing this new chapter in The Matrix universe.”

“Many of the ideas Lilly and I explored 20 years ago about our reality are even more relevant now,” added Wachowski. “I’m very happy to have these characters back in my life and grateful for another chance to work with my brilliant friends.”

The Matrix series was launched in 1999, with the third (and now not last) movie hitting theaters in 2005. The trilogy has earned more than $1.6 billion at the global box office.
