Emily Dickinson’s life is being adapted to the screen in an upcoming series set to air on the new streaming service Apple TV+ and it brings at least one surprising actor. Wiz Khalifa is set to portray the role of Death in the series called Dickinson.

The series will star Hailee Steinfeld as the young poet in what is described as a “darkly comedic coming-of-age story. The story features modern-day music and language while being set in the 19th century.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Steinfeld is thrilled by this casting. Death is supposed to be the young poet’s creative muse or even a kind of a lover. “I’m a huge fan of him in general, so the fact that we were able to get him to do the show was so exciting and he loved the idea of it,” she said. According to Steinfeld, the participation of Wiz Khalifa is “different and weird and interesting and exciting” and it makes the show the same.

Alena Smith, the show’s creator, said that she had Wiz in mind while she developed the character. “We had a creative meeting of the minds in approaching the character, and his playful spirit fit in perfectly with the mischievous tone of the show,” said Smith.

The series will be available from November 1 on Apple TV+.
