According to its official synopsis, Mr. & Mrs. Smith follows two lonely strangers, who work for a mysterious spy agency that offers them a glorious life of espionage, wealth, and world travels. Their lives become more difficult when they’re forced to assume new identities and enter an arranged marriage as Mr. and Mrs. John and Jane Smith.

Mr. & Mrs. Smith draws inspiration from Doug Liman’s 2005 film of the same name, which starred Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. Despite having a similar premise, the series will offer a fresh take on the source material, according to its star and co-creator Donald Glover.

“It’s definitely going to be different for a lot of people, which I think is good. You can always go back and watch the old one, but this one gives you a different feeling. People are definitely going to be shocked,” Glover told Entertainment Weekly.

Mr. & Mrs. Smith will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on February 2, and it will feature a total of eight episodes.

Glover recently made an appearance on Pablo Torre Finds Out podcast and shared some news about his feature in the Star Wars universe. The two-time Emmy winner revealed that his Disney+ series about Lando will pivot to the big screen.

“It’s not even a show. The idea right now is to do a movie… Right now because of the strike, it’s like [a game of] telephone,” said Glover.

Lando Calrissian was introduced as an old friend of Han Solo in The Empire Strikes Back and was originally portrayed by Billy Dee Williams. Glover took over from him to play a younger version of the character in Solo: A Star Wars Story, which chronicled the start of the duo’s friendship.

Disney+ series that puts Lando Calrissian front and center was originally announced in 2020, with Dear White People’s Justin Simien serving as its creator. He later parted ways with Disney+ and was replaced by Donald Glover and his brother Stephen Glover.

Glover attended this year’s Golden Globes after receiving another nomination for the last season of his show Atlanta, and Laverne Cox stopped him for a brief interview. Donald Glover told ET that the theme of the final season was to simply “have more fun”. His brother and executive producer Stephen Glover echoed his statement and expressed hope that Atlanta will inspire other creators to experiment and have fun, as well.

“I think the legacy of it is going to be about experimentation and how much weird stuff we’ve been able to do, Hopefully, that leads other people to want to take risks and do weird stuff too. Hopefully, that’s the legacy we lead,” said Stephen Glover.

The third season of the series premiered earlier this year and ended up scoring three Emmy nominations. Season 4 is set to return to FX on September 15 and it will feature 10 episodes.

FX chairman John Landgraf discussed Atlanta’s future during the network’s recent TCA presentation. They’re struggling to lock down an exact release date because it’s driven by Donald Glover and Hiro Morai’s schedule and availability, but the critically acclaimed comedy series will most likely come back in the first half of 2022.

“We haven’t locked down the scheduling for Season 3 yet as it just finished shooting—it’s shot primarily in Europe. It’s in post-production and it’s a lengthy post-production process, and part of that is because they’re currently in production of Season 4 in Atlanta,” explained Landgraf.

In addition to Glover, who created the series, Atlanta also stars Brian Tyree Henry, Lakeith Stanfield, and Zazie Beetz, and centers on the misadventures of up-and-coming rapper and his music manager as they navigate the Atlanta rap scene. The show has been met with critical acclaim since its premiere in 2016 and went on to win two Golden Globes and two Emmy Awards.

Last week, Glover distracted fans from quarantine by releasing a surprise album in the morning, which was available for streaming on his website before being removed just 12 hours later.

On Sunday he officially released the album onto streaming services with a title from last Sunday’s date, 3.15.20.

Not much information followed the release, which is under the names Donald Glover and his alter-ego Childish Gambino. The album’s sequence is the same as it appeared on his website last week, but it starts with what was assumed to be track 6.

As mentioned in a previous article, the album features Ariana Grande, 21 Savage, and Khadja Bonet.

Only two songs have titles, most of the tracks are the times of their point in the sequence like a YouTube video. There’s also no official artwork on the albums, but a press photo shows Glover in a domestic scene with his two sons who are wearing Spiderman masks.
